The sequel to the highly acclaimed card builder is almost here! That's right, Monster Train 2 has received a May 21st release date, meaning in less than 2 months, you'll be building your deck and defending against a new threat, the Titans.
Check out the game's release date trailer below:
While in the original Monster Train, players focused on defending the depths of Hell from the forces of Heaven, in Monster Train 2, you'll be teaming up both factions against a new threat, the Titans, who have taken control of Heaven and whose aim is to destroy the world.
It seems like the stakes are higher than ever, so you'll need to build up your forces of Heaven and Hell (in card form) and create brand new synergies to save the world. The developers assure us that they're keeping the same three-floor battlefield mechanic from the first game, but are introducing new factions, card types, and buffs, as well as new game modes (such as Endless Mode) and daily challenges to keep the fun going.

While at GDC, SteamDeckHQ's CEO, Noah Kupetsky, got to head over to Shiny Shoe's studio and talked with them a bit about the game as well:
I have had the pleasure of playing Monster Train 2 on my Steam Deck for a preview, and I lolved my time with it. It feels perfectly tailored for the Steam Deck, and the way the developer Shiny Shoe expanded the premise from the first game to include heroes and multiple floors is great. I spoke to them a bit at their studio while at GDC, and I could tell how much they cared not only about the game, but making sure it is good to play on the Deck.
They also talked to me a bit about some really cool features the game has, and I appreciate how the team worked with multiple artists for their cards (and each one is credited when looking at the card). There's also some special ideas in the works that I can't get too much into, but it's going to be worthwhile to keep this game on your radar. It runs exceptionally well on the Steam Deck so far, so I can almost guarantee this will be great to play wherever you go.

Monster Train 2 is due to launch on Steam on May 21st, 2025. The game has already received a Steam Deck Verified status, so it should run great on the Steam Deck. In fact, we tried the demo back in February and found that the game ran pretty much perfectly on our little device.
