Dragon Age: Inquisition Gets Rated Steam Deck Playable After Controller Support Gets Fixed

One of the games that has been giving a lot of trouble on the Steam Deck and other Linux devices is Dragon Age: Inquisition. While it is a great game, it has always had a problem with the regular Proton version supplied by Valve. For whatever reason, the game would run, but the controller wouldn’t be recognized. To get around this, cammoore1 created DAI-Proton, a specific layer that includes the fix for Inquisition so we could play without issue. However, just last week, that fix may have made its way into the normal layer, as the game received the Playable badge.

Last week, the game officially got the Playable badge, being upgraded from the Unsupported one. With the new badge, it notes that the default graphical configuration and controller configuration work well, but the in-game text is small; it will sometimes show the incorrect controller icons, and we will need to manually bring up the virtual keyboard. It also notes that it might need a community controller configuration, which directly contradicts the default controller configuration working well, so that’s a little confusing.

What makes this very wonderful is that it finally reflects how easy it is to get into and play the game now. Back in August, the Proton Experimental branch got an update that fixed controller support in Dragon Age: Inquisition, but until last week, it was still rated Unsupported. Now, I would say the rating accurately reflects the state of the game on the Deck.
