This one may have passed you by, but the team over at Embark Studios has gradually been rolling out Denuvo Anti-Cheat for ARC Raiders. Previously, the game utilized Easy Anti-Cheat, which runs pretty smoothly for Linux users, provided the developers take a couple of steps, and ARC Raiders has historically run well on Linux devices. But as Embark is rolling out the Denuvo build to more players, we're hearing several reports of the game failing to boot on Linux.

If you're receiving an error like the one above when you're trying to boot ARC Raiders, you're probably on the new Denuvo build, which isn't playing nicely with Linux devices.

The developers have assured the community that they are working on a fix, as per a message on their Discord server. The error is likely due to the fact that while Denuvo has full access to the kernel on Windows systems, Linux doesn't allow that kind of access. Proton can work somewhat with Denuvo, but it does restrict the capabilities of the anti-cheat compared to Windows, which is probably flagging up errors in Denuvo.

Hopefully, the developers are prepared to put in a little effort to rework their Denuvo implementation to make it compatible with Proton, so Steam Deck (and soon Steam Machine) users can get back to Speranza.
