It looks like there soon won't be any need to go through lengths to play Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 on the Steam Deck! A new Proton Hotfix was deployed earlier today that helps fix the crashing for Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 on the Steam Deck. This was confirmed by Pierre-Loup Griffais on Twitter (X):

While this does fix the crashing issue, which is nice, it doesn't fix the missing audio in cutscenes. Luckily, the DLL fix through our guide does seem to keep cutscene audio working and fix the crashes, so I would recommend using this still, but it is great that Valve is working on this regardless! I am sure another hotfix will be out soon for the audio, but for now, going the DLL route seems to be the best way to play the game.
