The Steam Machine’s release is inching closer and closer, and it seems like we will hear something very soon. There have been leaks here and there, as well as rumors going around that we will hear an announcement by around June 23rd, and now, we are starting to see even more come out to back that up. There have also been rumors that review units have gone out, and this rumor is starting to appear more credible since new benchmarks for the Steam Machine have appeared on Geekbench.

Yesterday, two new CPU benchmarks for the Steam Machine, also known as Valve Fremont, appeared on Geekbench. This specifically focuses on CPU testing, going into how it performs in multiple different scenarios and gives it a score for single-core and multi-core usage. These kinds of tests aren’t really indicative of its gaming capabilities, but they do give an idea of what we can expect for processes that require CPU above all else.
This isn’t the first time Geekbench tests for the Steam Machine were found in the browser, but it is the first time they appeared with SteamOS. The original tests came out in August of last year, but they were performed on Windows. These new tests are specifically on SteamOS, which indicates that someone is more than likely testing the product that we are going to get in our hands when it ships.

Now, this could be something Valve has uploaded themselves ahead of release, but it’s also very possible that it could be reviewers testing the device. It all seems to line up with the rumors going around that review units are out, and we will get an announcement very soon. I, for one, am looking forward to it.
