A new Proton Experimental update was released with a few fixes for different games. CEG-protected games should be playable again, and Japanese text rendering for Killer7 has been fixed. We also have fixes for Crysis and Crysis Wars on newer AMD CPUs, and early support for 32bit OpenXR has been included.
The new update should automatically download if you already have the experimental layer. If not, just search for Proton Experimental in the Steam store on your Steam Deck and download.
Proton Experimental 9/25/26 Update Changelog:
- Fixed a Proton Experimental regression that made CEG-protected games unplayable.
- Fixed Crysis and Crysis Wars not being playable with some newer AMD CPUs that support CPUID faulting.
- Fixed rendering corruption in Return to Krondor.
- Fixed Japanese text rendering in Killer7.
- Fixed Hide and Moo! showing error when quitting the game.
- Added early support for 32bit OpenXR (requires
PROTON_USE_WOW64=1on x86).
