Blizzard's popular Action RPG, Diablo IV, has just hit Season 14, adding new dungeons and bosses, as well as Mythic Unique items. Plus that Overwatch x Diablo collab we've all been dying for...?

But that's not the biggest news for Linux gamers, as it appears that yesterday's Season 14 update broke Diablo IV for Linux users, returning an error whenever you try to launch the game.

The developers were made aware of the issue soon after the update and did release a hotfix to try to solve the problem, but it appears as though it didn't do the job, with many users still reporting that the game is unplayable on Linux. On the plus side, it does mean that the developers are keen to maintain Linux compatibility and will likely retry another hotfix in the near future.

Diablo IV was the 22nd most played game on the Steam Deck for the month of June 2026, so this will likely affect a fairly large proportion of the player base. There is no doubt that this fact is one of the reasons why the developers are trying to fix this issue quickly. It is a shame, though, that the patch apparently wasn't tested at all on Linux prior to release.
