Acer's First Handheld Will Start At £1,000 In The UK

We're starting to see Intel's new Arc G3 and G3 Extreme chips at work in devices, first with the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, which featured a hefty price tag, but boasts good performance against devices like the ROG Xbox Ally X, and now we're seeing Acer enter the fray with the Acer Predator Atlas 8, and while it may be slightly more affordable, it's still a tough pill to swallow compared to the prices we're used to seeing.

First off, a brief look at the specifications of the Acer Predator Atlas 8. It will ship with an Intel Arc G3 (or G3 Extreme) APU, featuring a solid GPU that frequently beats other GPUs in its class, such as that featured in the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme.

The base model ships with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of Gen 4 PCIe storage. It also features a 120Hz 8" VRR LCD touchscreen display.

So the specifications are decent, what we would expect for a solid, albeit entry-level handheld in 2026. But the kicker is the price. The base model is launching for £999.99. For a device featuring just 16GB of RAM, that's a fair chunk of cash. Upgrading to 24GB of RAM will cost you an extra £100, and if you want the G3 Extreme APU (which you probably do want), you're looking at a £1,300 price tag, equivalent to around $1,750 with today's exchange rates, the highest model is £1,500 with 32GB of RAM, but at that point, you're looking at in excess of $2000.

We don't have the US prices yet, but I would find it unlikely that the entry-level device will launch at any less than $1000, given the current exchange rates. This still means that the ROG Xbox Ally X may remain the best value handheld on the market at this time.
