I couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming hardware from Valve. The Steam Controller looks incredible, and I couldn’t be more excited for both the Steam Frame and Steam Machine. Recently, there has been a lot of movement in the hardware space, with the controller officially being announced and released in three days. But it seems like Valve isn’t slowing down one bit.
Ahead of the announcement for the Steam Controller, and brought to our attention by Brad Lynch on Twitter/X, shipping data showed Valve getting a shipment for “Wireless Controllers”, which gave us a heads up that they were preparing for something big. Looking at their shipping manifest, it seems as though something else may be brewing because they have been getting multiple shipments of “Game Consoles” for the past month.

Now the obvious conclusion could be that they are stocking up on the Steam Machine for an announcement soon. While I do hope this is the case, I believe there are other, more believable, conclusions. The Steam Machine is not a “Game Console”, and I’m not sure it would be classified as such for shipping details. The more likely case would probably be stocking back up on Steam Decks, or even the Steam Frame.
It’s also very possible that Valve is just stocking up for when they are going to be ready to announce. I have no doubt that they’ve been working hard behind the scenes to settle on a price point for the Steam Machine, so even if the shipments are about the Machine, I wouldn’t say it’s an indicator that we’ll be hearing anything soon. Of course, it doesn’t mean I don’t have hope, but I do find it hard to believe that this is an indicator of anything being announced soon. The shipments have been happening throughout the middle of March, and there haven’t been any big indicators of something else brewing for these devices, unlike what happened with the Steam Controller.
Still, I will continue hoping because I cannot wait for either of these new pieces of tech.
