The ongoing tech price crisis shows no signs of slowing down, with sharp rises across the console gaming industry, especially. The Legion Go lineup is the most grievous casualty of this, but the Nintendo Switch lineup has suffered another unfortunate price increase. Starting May 25, Nintendo products and services will be adjusted ‘in light of changes in market conditions’.

In Japan, the entire Switch lineup has been revised, with their Japanese-language-only Switch 2 increasing from 49,980 yen to 59,980 yen, the Switch 1 OLED from 37,980 to 47,980, the original Switch from 32,978 to 43,980, and the Switch Lite model switching from 21,978 to 29,980. Oddly, Japan is also the only country for now that will see an increase in the Switch Online Membership: around a 10% increase across the Single and Family memberships.
For the rest of the world, the price adjustment is solely for the Nintendo Switch 2 model and will be in effect from September 1. For the US, we now have a price increase of 50$ for a new rate of $499.99. Canada sees an increase from $629.99 to $679.99, while Europe sees a 30 Euro increase from 469.99 to 499.99. It is important to note that for the US and Canada, these prices do not include tax, while Europe’s prices do.

While seeing such a price increase is deeply disappointing, this was not unexpected. With roughly four months before the new price hike comes into effect, this is the best time to pick one up if you want one. I miss the days when console prices went down over time rather than the opposite, but this is the reality for the time being.
