It has been years since I last played Subnautica, but I loved it when I did. The open-world survival game takes us under the sea, and not only is it extremely fun to play, but it is gorgeous on top of it. There has been a little bit of contention with the sequel, Subnautica 2, but it seems everything is full steam ahead, and those of us who wanna play on the Steam Deck may have nothing to fear.

Subnautica 2

In the latest dev vlog for the game, and initially spotted by sin6116 on Reddit, there is a small section where they confirm that the game will be good to play on the Steam Deck. Specifically, at the 1:40 mark on the video, they mentioned that if you’re playing on the Steam Deck or ROG Xbox Ally X, you will be “good to go.” This is right before they go into the recommended specs for PC, so it sounds like they are saying that we should be just good enough to play on the Deck immediately.

They don’t go further into the details of how it will run or what to expect, but the fact that they show it does mean they have some confidence about how it will run. And with the game entering early access, it’s only going to get more optimized as development continues. Still, for those who may be on the fence about getting the game if they’re going to be playing on the Steam Deck primarily, they should give a little bit of hope for the best, at least.

Subnautica 2 can be wishlisted on Steam now, ahead of its May 14th release date.
