Playing Monster Hunter on a portable device has been one of my favorite ways to play, so when Monster Hunter Rise broke recently from a new update that added Enigma to the game, I was a bit disheartened. Thankfully, the Valve team was on the case, and a new hotfix for Proton was released to get the game back up and running!
Unlike other proton hotfixes, this one isn't one you can automatically download. To get this, you will have to go to Monster Hunter Rise's preferences and to compatibility settings. Then, scroll all the way down in the dropdown menu and find "Proton Hotfix." When this is selected, you just have to let the layer download, and then you can boot up the game.
I did test this and was able to boot up the game, but I got stuck at a screen afterward. I was able to actually boot the game, though, which is farther than without the hotfix, so this may just be an issue my device is having. Capcom has addressed the issue and is planning a hotfix, so if the game still isn't fully launching, this is what they could be working on now. Regardless, it is always great seeing Valve help get games back on their feet!
Monster Hunter Rise is available on Steam for $39.99 and is rated Steam Deck Verified.
