Earlier today, Netherrealm Studios officially announced the next Mortal Kombat game!

Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1 is going to be the next MK game to grace our screens and while not much was shown other than the cinematic trailer, we did get a release date of September 19th of this year!

On top of that, there was a FAQ posted about the game which gives us some details about the development of the game which confirms that an internet connection will not be needed to play the game! This is exciting, especially for Steam Deck users. Other spots of the FAQ did answer other questions about the game including:

  • QLOC is developing the PC versions of the game. QLOC has assisted with development for some big games, including MKX and NieR: Automata, but they have ported over many games to PC including Mortal Kombat 11, Gotham Knights, and Injustice 2.
  • Purchasing the premium or Kollector's edition of the game has 5 days early access (9/14).
  • Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to Steam and the Epic Games Store
  • Kameo Fighters will be a big addition to the game. They are partner characters to assist during matches. They are also separate from the main fighter list.
  • The game will be priced at $70 standard, while the premium edition is $110 and comes with in-game currency, a skin for Johnny Cage modeled after Jean-Claude Van Damme, and early access to the Kombat Pack's 6 new playable fighters and 5 new Kameo fighters.
  • The Kollector's edition is only available for PS5 and Series X and will contain the premium edition and a sculpture of Liu Kang.
  • Beta access for pre-orders is only available for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
  • Mortal Kombat 1 will have rollback netcode for online gameplay.

The store page for Mortal Kombat 1 isn't currently up, but it will go live tomorrow (5/19) around 10am PT.
