There are a few options for getting emulators set up and optimized for the Steam Deck, but the most popular is EmuDeck. This is a script that will download and optimize emulators, with a nice UI that lets us choose the emulators we want, upgrade them to their latest development versions, and add some extra features. And from a new announcement, it sounds like EmuDeck is now fully ready to be used on the Steam Machine.

EmuDeck

In a post from the official EmuDeck account on Twitter/X, EmuDeck is officially Steam Machine ready. The post mentions some SD card fixes, as well as fixes for missing controls on some emulators. So, with all these fixes included, it should be as easy as installing the emulators from EmuDeck, and you’re good to go.

If you already have a Machine and have installed emulators from EmuDeck, all you have to do is launch the emulator again, and it should automatically be fixed. There’s no need to go to desktop mode and nothing to manually update; you just have to launch the emulator again.

It appears there are still some things on the to-do list, like optimizing the emulators so they are set for higher resolutions, but this update makes it so all the emulators will now work correctly and be playable with the right controls.

One of the big reasons a Steam Machine (or similar console-like PC) sounds so great is because we can play our older games through emulation. Having an easy way to set it up makes it more accessible to the majority of people and saves a lot of time by not having to get each emulator individually and set it up manually.

My Steam Machine is on the way here now; it should be here in a matter of days. I can’t wait, and I already have a growing list of games to test on it. However, installing emulators is definitely going to be one of the first things I do, and it’s good to know that EmuDeck is ready.
