Not many things will be more horrifying than war, and that's the backdrop that developers Catchweight Studio have chosen for their upcoming survival horror game, CONSCRIPT. Set during the Battle of Verdun in 1916, CONSCRIPT hopes to offer a new and original take on classic survival horror. It's planned to be released in 2024 on Steam.
Alongside the announcement of the game's narrowed release date, the team has revealed a trailer and also promised an updated demo when the Steam Next Fest arrives on June 10th.
You can check out the gameplay trailer below:
CONSCRIPT puts you deep into the trenches of the First World War, you will be in the shoes of a lone French soldier who is searching for his missing brother, and while doing so, must scavenge for supplies and solve complex puzzles.
Rather than glorify the violence of the World Wars, like many games do, CONSCRIPT seems to be taking a different route, as the founder and sole developer at Catchweight Studio explains:
“With CONSCRIPT, I aimed to immerse players in the grim reality of World War 1 while delivering the tense, gripping gameplay that survival horror fans know and love. I can’t wait to bring this experience to both PC and console players later this year and am especially excited to see the game on the shelves.”
Jordan Mochi, Founder & Solo-Developer, Catchweight Studio
CONSCRIPT will offer heightened replayability thanks to a variety of difficult settings, bonus weapons, as well as multiple possible endings.
You'll get the choice between defending yourself with melee weapons or firearms of the era, coupled with the intense atmosphere and pixel-art design, which muddies your ability to perceive things clearly.
Navigate the trenches of the area, solve environmental puzzles, make sure you are managing your resources effectively, and maybe you'll find your lost brother.

CONSCRIPT is due to launch on Steam later in 2024, a demo is available now and will be updated on June 10th. The game has full controller support and should run fine on the Steam Deck.
