Steam Deck Verified/Playable Highlights 12/18/23 - 12/24/23

Ah, the week right before the big holiday. While everyone has been getting their decorations up, Valve has been hard at work bringing more games to the Steam Deck Verified and Playable status. We went and took a look at them and found ten highlights we think are worth checking out!

Verified or Playable games don't automatically mean they work amazing out of the box. Some of these games may require work to optimize and play well. Here are our thoughts on the Verified system and how it can be fixed.

Songs of Conquest (Verified)

Raise mighty armies, wield ancient magic and build an empire. This turn-based strategy adventure game fuses RPG, tactical combat and kingdom management.

The game is on sale for $14.99 and rated Verified. It recently had a fantastic update to optimize for the Steam Deck, adding some great features that make it a wonderful game to play on the go.

Layers of Fear (Verified) (SDHQ Review)

All stories must come to an end, even twisted and eerie ones. The canvas. The stage. The novel. This narrative-focused psychological horror experience is ready for its final brushstrokes, its curtain call, its final chapter. Are you ready to return and face your fears one last time?

The game is on sale for $20.99 and rated Verified.

Football Manager 2024 (Playable)

Build a world-class team ready to dominate your rivals in football’s most prestigious competitions. Progress never stops when you’re pursuing footballing greatness.

The game is on sale for $53.99 and rated Playable due to small in-game text and sometimes showing incorrect controller icons.

Cookie Cutter (Verified) (SDHQ Review)

Fueled by love and powered by rage, join Cherry on a blood-soaked quest for revenge as she explores the massive Megastructure and eviscerates the armies of INFONET in an unforgettable over-the-top 2D platformer/metroidvania that breaks tropes and bones.

The game is $15.99 and rated Verified.

Born of Bread (Playable)

Born of Bread is a wacky and joyful RPG Adventure, revisiting turn-based combat tropes. Play as Loaf, a flour-golem discovering this enchanting world full of humor, along with a colorful cast of buddies.

The game is $24.99 and rated Playable due to small in-game text.

Capcom Fighting Collection (Verified)

Ten of Capcom's most popular arcade games in one bumper collection! A wide variety of titles are included from series such as Street Fighter and Darkstalkers, Cyberbots, and the first home console port of Red Earth! And of course, all titles support online play!

The game is on sale for $19.99 and rated Verified.

Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis (Playable)

Experience both classic and new stories within the FFVII universe presented in a retro-style look combined with modern, beautifully rendered graphics. Team up your favorite characters and customize each one with iconic gear and weapons to defeat powerful opponents in Solo or Co-op battle mode.

The game is free to play and is rated Playable due to sometimes showing incorrect controller icons and needing to use the virtual keyboard. There may be some microtransactions in the game.

Cultist Simulator (Verified)

Seize forbidden treasures. Summon alien gods. Feed on your disciples. Cultist Simulator is a game of apocalypse and yearning. Play as a seeker after unholy mysteries, in a 1920s-themed setting of hidden gods and secret histories.

The game is on sale for $6.79 and rated Verified. It also has a native Linux build.

Sword Art Online Last Recollection (Playable) (SDHQ Review)

Based on SWORD ART ONLINE’s War of Underworld anime arc, a new story unfolds with tough challenges that await our beloved hero, Kirito, and his new friends. With fast and stylish combat, the gameplay boasts epic MMO-like battles! As you play, you will unmask the Dark Knight and find out if Kirito and the crew will survive the relentless battling against the forces of the Dark Territory!
