A new Steam Deck Beta Client update was released with a couple of nice fixes. Valve reduced how much memory steamwebhelper uses when launching games, which is very much appreciated on memory-limited devices, and SteamOS devices that aren't the Steam Deck will now show the correct installation warnings instead of the Verified ones. These steamwebhelper fixes were also brought over to Big Picture Mode.

You can download the update yourself in the System Settings on the Steam Deck. Make sure your update channel is set to Beta or Preview.

General

  • Reduced steamwebhelper memory usage when launching games.
  • Fixed SteamOS compatible devices showing SteamDeck Verified installation warnings instead of the SteamOS Compatible version.

Desktop Mode

  • Reduced steamwebhelper memory usage when switching to/from Big Picture Mode.
  • Fixed rare steamwebhelper crash when switching to/from Big Picture Mode.
