Announced in today's Nintendo Direct, Square Enix has unveiled Star Ocean The Second Story R, a remake of the 2nd game in the Star Ocean series. The remake will feature a gorgeous 2.5D aesthetic, combining 2D characters with 3D environments and brand new gameplay features, which includes real-time combat, new battle mechanics, customizable party progression, new difficulty modes, and more:
The story will follow Claude, a Federation officer, who is transported to an undeveloped planet where he must find a way home. On the way, he meets a girl named Rena, determined to save her people as an ancient prophecy comes true. You will be able to select Claude or Rena to play as, which will not only give a different perspective on the story, but also gain different party members. You will also be able to learn more and deepen their relationships and get new endings with the "Private Actions System".
The game will launch with Japanese and English voiceovers performed by the original cast, but there will be an update for subtitle support in French, Italian, German, and Spanish. If you pre-order, there will also be some bonuses including the Pangalactic Federation Longsword, Forest Knuckles, Sunrise Ring, and a set of recovery items to aid you in battle.
You can pre-order Star Ocean The Second Story R on Steam for $50 ahead of its November 2nd release.
