Slitterhead, developed and published by Bokeh Game Studio and headed by Keiichiro Toyama, is a horror-action adventure game that will launch on November 8, 2024, on PC via Steam and other platforms. The developer has teased new characters, battle systems, and a stage, creating excitement for what sounds like a dark, riveting, and intense experience. It’s quite to info dump for us horror fans, so let’s dive right in!

Character Introductions

Exciting new characters with unique histories and goals await players in Slitterhead. Set in the seedy underworld of Kowlong, these characters are essential to the story and ambiance of the game:

Anita: Her employer is a massage parlor associated with the criminal organization known as "Golden Qilin." Because of her icy personality, she is now a mysterious figure among her contemporaries.

Edo: After a career in show business, Edo is now homeless in Kowlong and lives with a dog. His downfall is obvious, but his past is shrouded in mystery.

Michelle: Michelle is the well-respected manager of Moon Flower, a nightclub, and a massage parlor. As time goes on, her worry over Anita's peculiar behavior intensifies.

These character differences and backstory add an emotional depth to Slitterhead, adding a taste of realism to this horror-stuffed trifle!

Combat Mechanics

Battles in Slitterhead are unlike any other, giving players a wide variety of options for dispatching terrifying enemies. Here are a few of the main ways to smoke your spectral foes:

Blood Weapon

A player's character's blood can be used to craft powerful weapons that can withstand multiple attacks. Strategy is key because weapon durability decreases while blocking attacks from enemies.

Deflect All (Edo’s Active Skill): While in a focused state, players can use this ability to automatically deflect all attacks.

Angel Step: The ability to move around obstacles and launch counterattacks is known as evasive maneuvers.

Burning Edge: A dangerous but potentially rewarding ability that increases the damage output of the Blood Weapon at the expense of its durability.

Possession and Strategy: Possessing other bodies to evade danger is one of Slitterhead's notable features. Players' ability to stay alive in human bodies declines with time, forcing them to find new hosts. When you're up against enemies that aren't easy to dodge or block, this mechanic really ramps up the tension and strategy.

Players are encouraged to become experts at timing deflections and counterattacks in order to survive, as successful defense moves can restore the Blood Weapon's durability.

The Mong Tsui Stage - A "Sleepless Zone"

The unveiling of a new stage named "Mong Tsui" was also noteworthy. The neon-lit streets, criminal organizations, and constant danger characterize this area in Kowlong. With its moniker, the "Sleepless Zone," Mong Tsui personifies anarchy and defiance of authority. In addition to the slitterheads who masquerade as humans, the regular citizens also give off an air of being unreliable and suspicious.

Players will need to adjust to both fast-paced fighting and slower, tension-building evasion sequences due to the stage design's combination of open city exploration and moments of intense stealth.

Mission-Based Gameplay and Intermissions

A mission-based system determines how the game progresses. The "Intermission" phase, which follows each mission, allows players to communicate with their allies, or "Rarities." You can unlock new missions, costume changes, and skill enhancements through these conversations, which also advance the game's story.

Players can strategize by choosing different Rarities and abilities, opening up a world of varied gameplay experiences, and there are multiple ways to approach each mission.

Slitterhead is quickly becoming a sensation among horror, action, and strategy game fans, as well as those seeking a fresh take on the genre. The combination of freakish creatures and combat has got me very excited to see the finished results. Horror hounds like me will want to explore—and survive—the tense, bat-poop-crazy world that is a combination of a character-driven narrative and tactical combat wrapped around a dark nightmarish setting. If you want to keep abreast of future updates, why not Wishlist Slitterhead on Steam today…if you’re not too scared that is!
