We may not be playing Monster Hunter Wilds on the Steam Deck, but that doesn't stop it from being an awesome game to play! In my review, I noted how challenging the new iteration of the franchise is, while also introducing some fantastic new mechanics that help keep the experience engaging. However, the Title 1 update introduced some issues that stopped the game from working on the Steam Deck, but the heroes over at Valve have stepped in with a fix!

Monster Hunter Wilds

Confirmed over on Bluesky by Valve's own Pierre-Loup Griffais, the Proton Hotfix layer has been updated to now include a fix to Monster Hunter Wilds crashing. This should take effect immediately, with Valve switching the default layer to Proton Hotfix to account for the change:

A Proton Hotfix has been deployed to work around a crash introduced by the Monster Hunter Wilds update.

The Proton Hotfix should automatically be added to your downloads and update accordingly.

While this doesn't necessarily make the game more playable on the Steam Deck, it does fix issues that others may have been encountering on more powerful desktop PCs that have Linux OS. Still, it's always appreciated. There are some mods I have seen that may make Monster Hunter Wilds more playable on the Deck, but this is something I have to investigate for myself before singing its praises.

Monster Hunter Wilds can be purchased on Steam for $69.99, but you can get it on Fanatical right now for $55.99 instead to save some money.
