Split/Second Proton Experimental

There was a new Proton Experimental update this morning that brings up some fixes and improvements. This includes fixes for Far Cry New Dawn, Dark and Darker, The Talos Principle, Dungeons and Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, and Squad. We also have improved controller support for Far Cry, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, and Split/Second when Steam Input is used and controller hotplugging is now more reliable. There are also a couple of new playable demos, as well as The Rabbit's Scroll and Blair Witch VR now being playable.

The new update should automatically download if you already have the experimental layer. If not, just search for Proton Experimental in the Steam store on your Steam Deck and download.

Proton Experimental 7/28/26 Update Changelog:

  • Now playable: Welcome to Elderfield Demo, The Rabbit's Scroll, Blair Witch VR, Elisa: The Innkeeper - Prequel.
  • Improved controller support for Far Cry New Dawn, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Split/Second when Steam Input is used.
  • Fixed Far Cry New Dawn showing GPU warning with AMD GPUs.
  • Fixed Squad not starting when set to non-English locale.
  • Fixed Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara not displaying available resolution correctly on some setups.
  • Fixed Dark and Darker sometimes hanging on start.
  • Improved reliability of controller hotplug.
  • Added Steamworks SDK 1.65 support.
  • Fixed Proton 11 regressions:
    • The Talos Principle and The Talos Principle VR should no longer incorrectly show the login window on launch.
    • Awakened PoE Trade should be able to read clipboard set by Proton reliably again.
