PAYDAY 2 has always been one of my favorite co-op games, and it still holds strong today. The sheer amount of content and action in the game is phenomenal, and it still feels just as exciting as it did 13 years ago. While it never completely clicked with me, I love that there is a VR mode, which I did enjoy from time to time. It felt a little weird translating the PC game to VR, but I have a lot of excitement for the dedicated PAYDAY VR game: PAYDAY: Aces High. The team behind it, Fast Travel Games, has a good chunk of experience under its belt, so I’m hopeful that this will be a pretty great VR experience. And it sounds like one that will be able to enjoy on the Steam Frame.

PAYDAY: Aces High

With the game coming this year, I reached out to Fast Travel Games to see if the game was going to be playable and optimized for the Steam Frame. In their response, they confirmed that they are working to optimize it for the Steam Frame, which I would consider a very good sign for playability on the Frame.

They didn’t mention whether this was going to be for streaming or standalone, but since the game is being released on the Quest 3 as well, my guess is going to be standalone. It looks like an awesome game to enjoy, taking the high-octane gameplay of PAYDAY and developing it specifically for VR. We will still have to work with friends to complete the heist, and I can’t wait to try for myself.

The biggest thing I’m hoping for is good progression. I love the progression systems in PAYDAY 2, so if they can bring that same kind of feeling to Aces High, it will be an instant purchase for me. Time will tell for sure, but I will admit, I have my hopes high.

PAYDAY: Aces High will be released later this year, and they’re going to have a playtest in a few days for others to try out for themselves.
