I remember when Nightingale was shown off. It was easily one of the best-looking survival games I had seen in a long time. The final game does live up to that to some degree, but it is very hard to play, with some performance issues and some boring aspects later in the game. Playing on the Steam Deck is a bit hard as well due to always needing to be online, but the newest update is here, and we finally have Offline Mode!

In version 0.3.0, which was released yesterday, we have a couple of big improvements and new changes. The biggest one for the Steam Deck is easily offline mode, which is now integrated into the game! This will allow us to enjoy the game without needing to be tethered to WiFi, which is great for portable play. There are some limits, though. Content has been balanced for single-player play; you can't access features that rely on connecting to player accounts (like Twitch drops), and there is no multiplayer play here. There is also some extra load for offline since there is no server to connect to, so it will perform a bit worse than playing online, but the team is working on optimizing this! Modding will be considered after the offline mode has been optimized further.

We also have some great new community-requested features that made their way into the game, like building from your storage, skipping the tutorial, new player loadouts and body types, and being able to edit an existing character from the menu. There's also a new community event called "A Spark of Hope," soft/hard caps on crafts, a new bound, new NPCs like Joan of Arc and Edgar Allan Poe, new sound effects and visual changes, tier 3 and 4 throwing knives, and much much more.

You can check out the full changelog on the Nightingale website.

Nightingale is available on Steam for $29.99. It is rated Steam Deck Playable and last time I played, there were some performance issues, but this is a great step forward to being a wonderful portable game.
