Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Works On Steam Deck, But Doesn't Perform Well

First-Person Shooters come in all shapes and sizes, and if you’re looking for one where teamwork, tactics, and strategy are at the forefront, Hell Let Loose is the game for you. Today, the next entry in the series was released, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, bringing us into an iconic conflict with 50v50 battles. I was super excited to try it for myself, even if I’m not the most strategic player in shooters, and I wanted to see if it would hold up on this Steam Deck.

Before getting into the game, I was a little bit worried. On the store page, it mentions needing kernel-level anti-cheat in the form of Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). When it comes to playability on the Deck, any anti-cheat like this is almost immediately a sign that it won’t be playable. Still, I had hope, so I booted it up for myself, and I’m glad I did.

After going through the tutorial, I was able to successfully get in and join a game. Ultimately, this means that there should be no issues playing online on the Steam Deck. I went through the entire match, got killed a few times, and was able to confirm it for myself.

However, performance isn’t too great. Even on the lowest settings with TSR scaling at 35%, there were still some drops below 30 FPS when walking around. It’s stuck at 30 FPS more than I expected, but for a game like this, any sort of drops and lower framerates are going to impact the experience negatively. This definitely led to my death a few times, so I can say with certainty that it’s not great.

Ultimately, I wouldn’t say this is a game to play on the deck, but it is nice that it is accessible on SteamOS. This means playing it on the Steam Machine will not only be possible but might be enjoyable. There may be some restrictions, and I can’t see it playing well at higher than 1080p resolution, but it should still be playable nonetheless.
