There are so many amazing games that you can play on the Steam Deck, and one of the ones I’ve been getting into recently is Forza Horizon 6. I’m not generally the best when it comes to racing games, but I am enjoying it. However, something I used to love growing up was playing racing games with a steering wheel. It feels so cool to turn the wheel to control my car. And an upcoming controller from GameSir may be the perfect companion for racing games on the go.

GameSir Swift Drive Controller

Teased on the official Twitter/X, GameSir is coming up with a controller called Swift Drive. Unlike other controllers, this one actually has a miniature Direct Drive wheel in the middle of the controller. Now, when I first saw it, I thought it was a little bit gimmicky. But the more I saw it in action, the more I started to fall in love with the idea of it. Being able to use thumbs to move the wheel sounds pretty cool, and if we can use Steam Input to map back buttons to different actions like accelerating or braking, I could see myself using two thumbs to move the wheel accordingly.

The controller is still in pre-production, but it has been shown off a few times, where people are claiming it’s very cool. In an article from Windows Central, they mentioned that it’s a little heavier than a regular Xbox controller, but still comfortable, and it uses the same Direct Drive technology that full-on steering wheels use, so it has similar force feedback that feels great.

As someone who prefers portable gaming over stationary, this looks like the perfect companion for racing games on the go. And I can’t wait to hear more about the controller, while hoping that it will be compatible with the Steam Deck.
