Indie games are the lifeblood of the gaming industry. While so many love the AAA games, indies will take risks and find new ways to incorporate working conventions, or even make their own. While there are so many indie games we love, we take pleasure highlighting ones that are not only supporting the Steam Deck, but supporting Linux as a whole! And then we came across this gem.
Earth of Oryn is an upcoming city-builder/strategy game that is set in a medieval world. You will build your kingdom as you desire while managing the people in a vibrant and breathtaking world. You will have to create your own politics, laws, and culture, manage your economy, and raise armies to protect what you have built in real-time battles. You will be able to use prefabricated buildings or even create your own models thanks to the building system being implemented. There is even a creative mode to create your own world from the ground up!
There is a lot to say about this game and it looks/sounds incredible. And with inspiration coming from Roller Coaster Tycoon, Age of Empires, and RimWorld, there will be a lot to look forward to. I reached out to the official Earth of Oryn Twitter account as I was intrigued and wanted to know about Steam Deck support.
Speaking to Edouard Libion, the developer for Earth of Oryn, he confirmed to me that full Steam Deck support has been heavily requested and something he wants to implement, which includes resolution, optimizations, and controller support. Right now, he is currently waiting to procure a Steam Deck to be able to test it out, so he couldn't 100% confirm it will happen, but the desire is there. He also mentioned to me that the game will have native Linux support, which was a tier from the successful Kickstarter for the game.
As for a timeline, he anticipates that the Linux build would release just after 1.0 release of the game, which he projects will hit in the first quarter of 2025, with any Steam Deck support coming after the Linux build is out. There is also a planned early access release that he projects to hit in the first quarter of 2024. Of course, these are subject to change, but I am overly excited for this release! You can currently wishlist the game on Steam and follow development on Twitter!

I'd be super keen to see how this turns out! My partner enjoys city builders and it would be such a delight to be able to play it away from the desk. Thanks for the news!
You and me both! I plan to keep in contact with the developer and offer any help to bring Steam Deck support to the game. Being able to play this on-the-go, with controller support, would be something else!
