The dBrand Companion Cube fiasco is one of the biggest flubs I have seen in recent times. Basically, dBrand created this Companion Cube case for the Steam Machine without ever getting Valve’s approval. So, Valve told them to stop and wouldn’t allow them to continue selling the case. It’s a shame, but also completely understandable. However, that’s not going to stop dBrand from creating accessories for the Machine.

Despite this huge mess up, dBrand will still be making accessories, like skins and faceplates, for the Steam Machine. This was confirmed to us directly by dBrand via email, where I asked if they have plans to make more products for the Steam Machine.

I didn’t get any details as to exactly what they will be making, but it’s good to know that this isn’t going to stop them completely. Yes, this is a major screw-up, and it’s completely their fault, but I am still excited to see what accessories and products come out to allow us to customize our steam machine the way we want to. I still think dBrand handled themselves well here, but I do hope that for future products, they will either make originals or ask the IP’s owners before making a product of it.
