I have always respected emulation, which I see as a fantastic way to preserve classic games. It's especially important for older consoles, though we have seen emulation for last-gen consoles that are still active today. One of those is shadPS4, an in-development emulator that is working on perfecting PS4 emulation. It has come a long way since its inception, and recently, the team has teased their next update that is in prerelease right now, showing off 8 games that are either more playable, have improvements, or are finally booting up.

While SteamDeckHQ does support emulation and preservation, we do NOT support piracy. All games being tested are dumped from legally purchased games of ours. We will never link to any websites or sources to download any ROMs.

In the video above, the shadPS4 team goes through 8 games to show off what the new version of the emulator is capable of:

  • God of War III - Remastered
  • Dead Or Alive 5 - Last Round
  • Eternights
  • Garfield Furious Racing
  • Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure Eyes of Heaven
  • Persona 5 Royal
  • Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5
  • Zombie Driver Immortal Edition

So far, there are some great improvements being shown off. God of War 3 Remastered was only at the menus before, with some enemies in gameplay being completely black, but it seems like this has been remedied. Enemies can now be seen as they should be, and while the actual gameplay is still a bit stuttery, it's better than it was before. Dead or Alive 5 is now actually playable, and will boot past the initial logos.

I can't confirm about the other games, as I haven't seen any compatibility reports of the others, but it's still great to see. Jojo does have some slowdowns, and Garfield and Tony Hawk has some odd visual issues, but it's possible that these are actually improvements over the prior version, so that's pretty great to see.

The team also mentions that this is just a small list of the many more games that are now working or slated to work with the new version of shadPS4, so it will be very interesting to see exactly what games have improved.

You can download shadPS4 from their GitHub, or check it out through EmuDeck or RetroDECK.
