Whimel Academy recently left Early Access, and it is an enjoyable enough management sim set in a witch’s school. The art style is beautiful and the potion making mechanics are nice to delve into. The 0.1.12 patch went live this week that makes some nice fixes to the full release, including a very annoying UI bug that was present on the Steam Deck.

The patch notes are small but the fixes are important nonetheless. The UI/interface was cut off on the Deck, making it hard to actually play the game on the go. However, this has been fixed with the patch. Other fixes include dialogue fixes, making the ‘the other kid’ conversation optional, and several crashes have been solved.

Whimel Academy is on sale for $11.99 until November 7th. It is rated Playable due to small in-game text, needing to manually bring up the virtual keyboard, the game not displaying the Deck's native resolution, needing a community controller configuration, and showing incorrect controller icons.
