Vampire Survivors is a phenomenon that doesn’t stop giving. Even now, after hundreds and hundreds of hours I put into it, I feel like the gameplay never gets old and there’s always something new to discover. Part of that comes from the continuous updates and expansions that the game gets, and the new expansion is another reason to dive back in and enjoy the game all over again.

Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Bloodmoon

Last week, the game had a new expansion release called Legacy of the Bloodmoon, which came out of nowhere to me. It’s essentially the alternative to its Legacy of the Moonspell expansion, focusing instead on the villains. And just like all of the other expansions, it comes with new content across the board with new characters, weapons, and a brand new big stage.

I was quite pleased with the new characters, and felt the weapons were very unique compared to what we’ve seen before. From Malice’s Scarlet Needle that pierce his enemies and stops them in their tracks for quite some time, to Sargon’s three Fire spells that can combine into a crazy powerhouse with flames everywhere, it felt like there was something to enjoy when I’m unlocking all 16+ new weapons.

And each of the characters have a unique effect that makes them worth playing. Most of these effects are triggered in certain situations, like when you’re attacked, your health is at critical, or you revive. One of the characters even get the new passive weapon slot every time you revive past the first time, which is pretty awesome if you can get multiple revives. There are 12 characters in total to unlock, and some of them surprised me. One of them even costs 540,000 gold coins, which shocked me at first until I saw who I was actually going to play as.

The map also has a great balance of size, power up to fine, and bosses to kill. Like the other expansions, all the characters can generally be unlocked by completing different objectives on this map, and I quite enjoyed myself doing so. There’s a lot to experience, and it felt great to discover it for myself.

There’s even a brand new Adventure to enjoy. I can’t say I spend a lot of time in these contained versions of the game, but it is no doubt interesting and cool to have. There are eight chapters to play through, which tells a little story about the relevant characters in this expansion. It’s not something I found myself playing a lot of, but it’s a nice little extra.

And at the end of the day, what makes this such an amazing deal is that it's extremely cheap. The entire expansion is just $1, making it extremely cheap to add more content to the game. This falls in line with the prices of their other expansions, with the most expensive one being $4 MSRP, and it makes it so worthwhile. The pricing for the game and it’s expansions have always been extremely competitive, and it’s hard not to justify getting more characters, weapons, a new stage, some fantastic new music, and a brand new Adventure, for the cost.

If you enjoy Vampire Survivors and like great games to play on the Steam Deck, do yourself a favor and pick up this expansion.
