With Valve giving so many games their Steam Frame compatibility rating, it feels like a big announcement. Could be any day now. I’m actually a bit surprised it hasn’t happened yet, but I feel like it’s bound to happen any day now. Now, that feels even more like a possibility, because the Frame just got its own FCC certification.

Yesterday, the Steam Deck officially got certification from the FCC. This is a significant step towards release, because this certification means that the FCC has determined that the device is safe to use and does not have harmful radio waves. It’s an important step for any tech product that releases, and is a sign that the product should be approved and ready to ship out to consumers.

For other hardware from Valve, like the Steam Machine, we saw a launch maybe 3-4 weeks after the FCC Verification, and if the Frame follows this timeline, it will be out mid to late August. I really thought the Frame was going to be announced on Monday, and while it still could be announced today or Friday, it’s starting to feel a little bit late. I’m worried that there might be some adjustments happening behind the scenes because of the recent update from Qualcomm to increase their chip prices by 10% in September. Luckily, Valve hasn’t announced the price yet, but it’s definitely worth being concerned about.
