A new Steam Deck Beta Client update was released right before the weekend that focuses primarily on account switching. We can now switch accounts while a game is running, and there's no more "change account" dialog confirmation for the most part. It will just automatically switch the account and restart. As a bonus, Steam shutdown will also wait until games finish their cloud sync, which is very much appreciated.

You can download the update yourself in the System Settings on the Steam Deck. Make sure your update channel is set to Beta or Preview.

  • Allow changing account while a game is running. In this case, the change account dialog shows a warning that proceeding will close active games.
  • Steam shutdown now waits for just-exited games to finish cloud sync.
  • Added "Ask which account to use on startup" toggle to startup account chooser.
  • Eliminated "change account" confirmation dialog in most cases. Changing account while Steam is running now brings up the account chooser directly, then restarts as the chosen account.
