Announced about an hour ago by Rockstar's Twitter account, Red Dead Redemption is finally getting a long-overdue release on PC. After having been only released on PS3 and Xbox 360 until 2023 when it received a PS4 and Switch release, the game has never been officially playable on PC, but on October 29th, that will all change, as the game will launch on Steam, complete with the Undead Nightmare DLC.

Check out the trailer below:

What can we expect from this PC release then? Well, as you can probably tell from the trailer, it's not on the level of Red Dead Redemption 2, and this is more of a port than a remake or remaster. But we do get some nice extras with the PC release.

These include:

  • Support for upscaling technologies like DLSS3 and FSR3, including frame generation.
  • Support for 4k resolutions, up to 144hz
  • Support for Ultrawide displays, 21:9 and 32:9
  • HDR10 support for those Steam Deck OLED owners
  • Adjustable graphical settings, including Shadows and Draw Distance

That's all good news, especially adjustable graphics settings, with Red Dead Redemption having only been released on consoles beforehand, it wasn't always a given that we'd have flexible settings.

We've reached out to Rockstar about whether or not they'll be supporting the Steam Deck for this release, but hopefully, with the adjustable graphics settings, and the minimum requirements being a GTX 960, the Steam Deck should be able to manage this one.

Red Dead Redemption will launch on Steam on October 29th, we don't have any pricing yet. The game suggests a GTX 960 for the minimum requirements, which seems overkill given the graphics of the game, but we'll see come the time.

Will you be playing through Red Dead Redemption when it launches on Steam later this month? Let us know in the comments below.
