One of my favorite features of the Nintendo Switch is the ability to hold down a button, and the device will save a 30-second clip of what just transpired. Being able to capture and showcase cool moments you encounter is amazing, and it's nice to show off what happens to your playthrough. The Steam Deck has access to many games, and being able to do this would be really nice. Thankfully, it seems we may officially be able to soon!

According to Pavel Djundik, the creator of the fantastic Steam data website, SteamDB, Valve has been working on something called "Game Recording Clips." Details on the upcoming feature are scarce, but going by the name, it would be pretty odd if it meant anything other than the ability to record clips of your gameplay directly within the Steam client. Pavel also mentions this in his post on X (formerly Twitter), where he announced this possibility. This feature could theoretically affect all versions of the Steam Client so it would be available on PCs and other handhelds, too.

Currently, there is an awesome Decky Loader plugin that gives you the ability to do this now. After installing Decky, which you can do by following our guide, you can install the Decky Recorder plugin. This plugin will either record a specific length of video for you that you specify or, if you choose to, you can set a hotkey where it will record the last 30 seconds of whatever appears on the screen. The plugin is fantastic, so if you can't wait for this possible official feature, definitely check this out.

Hopefully, we will see this new feature coming soon. I will definitely be looking out for it, as there is always something I would love to show happening in-game on some of my reviews or just showcase some cool things that happen in-game as I play!
