When there are games that aren’t working as they should on the Steam Deck, the first thing I do is test different Proton compatibility layers. And almost always, the one that fixes it is GE-Proton. This is a community-made version of Proton created and maintained by GloriousEggroll. And because it is community-made, it includes specific fixes and video codecs that Valve can’t include in their official version. It has been quite some time since GE-Proton got an update, but it looks like the next version is going to be coming very soon.

Persona 5 Strikers GE-Proton

In a post on Twitter/X, GloriousEggroll he mentioned that the next version of GE-Proton is coming very soon. In the post, he reminds us that he’s still working on the next version’s video playback rework, which has been a huge task. He then goes on to say that he squashed all the major bugs and is also cleaning up regressions that came with the video playback rework. And in a follow up comment, he mentioned that he hopes to have the new version out by the end of this week.

In recent post, he has mentioned working on the videos in games to make them play correctly, and he mentioned getting Persona 5 Strikers’ intro video working correctly as well. At the time, this was his last game to test before the next GE-Proton.

Hopefully, he will be able to release the next version of GE-Proton this week, and if you want to read more about why we love GE-Proton, you can check out our guide on how to install it.
