Eclipsium Gets Full Steam Deck Support With Latest Free Update

Critical Reflex has published numerous crazy, weird games that I have found myself enchanted by. Mouthwashing was the one that captivated me first, but they have plenty of others that fall under the weird category. One of those is Eclipsium. Caught my attention with how weird it looks, which is exactly what I wanted to see, and after playing it for a bit, it is definitely a surreal, psychological horror that I was expecting it to be. However, the latest update is quite significant and adds Steam Deck support, which is a treat.

A week ago, the game got the Dark Tar update, which included a bunch of new improvements. These include brand-new story elements, a new location, and even the ability to sprint. These are all very welcome, but on top of that, we also got full Steam Deck support. Before this update, there were a bunch of reports of framerate drops and issues, so I decided to check the game out for myself to see if it really has improved.

From what I can tell, it has definitely improved. I didn’t notice any random framerate drops or spikes, and it was quite playable. A lot of the issues that people were discussing seem to have been fixed, so I’m quite happy about that.

However, it doesn’t change the fact that the game is still much more demanding than I expected. For the type of game it is, I thought it was going to be a solid 60 FPS with medium to low battery drain below 12W, but if you want stability, a 30 FPS lock is the way to go, and it will still drain around 13 or 14W. Trying to play at 60 FPS will result in fluctuating framerates and extremely high battery drain.

It’s not what I would call amazing, but Eclipsium is definitely playable. Once it was kept to 30 FPS, I experienced almost no fluctuations, and it still felt decent. I expected it to perform better than it did, so I was a little disappointed, but at the end of the day, it’s still worth playing on the go.
