The big event right now might be The Game Awards 2024, but that doesn't mean it's the only thing going on. Day of the Devs have done a special The Game Awards edition of their show to highlight some upcoming indies that they're excited about. We're a big fan of indies here at SDHQ as well, as they often come up with innovative ideas that don't require you to have a ray-tracing, path-tracing, wallet-erasing computer!

So let's take a look at all the games covered in this special Day of the Devs showcase!

DayoftheDevsTGA2024Feature

Faraway (2025)

Faraway is a single-button procedurally generated game that's been over a decade in the making and is finally coming to us in 2025. You play as a shooting star, where a button press allows you to gravitate around other celestial bodies, effectively making "slingshotting" yourself your primary way of movement. Use the momentum you've got to connect stars together and make constellations, can you build the biggest and most complex constellation for the highest score?

Ultimate Sheep Raccoon (World Premiere, Coming 2025)

The spiritual successor to Ultimate Chicken Horse. This new party game focuses on racing from one end to the other, just like Ultimate Chicken Horse, but this time, we have bikes! Yes, it's Trials meets Ultimate Chicken Horse, as players race to the end of the track while avoiding all those dastardly obstacles and traps that their opponents (and themselves) have placed. There might be a power-up or two to grab as well!

Sleight of Hand (2025)

Sleight of Hand may be yet another Deck Builder on the block, but it's pretty unique in the fact that you don't see many third-person stealth deck builders. You play as an occult detective taking on one last case. The cards you have in your hand will determine your available actions, bringing in the strategic gameplay that often accompanies card games.

Demon Tides (2025)

Demon Tides is a 3D platformer. Chainable moves to navigate through levels fast and in unique ways looking much like a Sonic game in that regard, with the aim to be Speedrunning friendly. Talismans that you collect can give you different abilities that you can use to open up new ways to navigate the world, such as a glider or a drone that you can use to scout the area. Tag objects with graffiti and other players will be able to see it in their worlds.

The introduction the presenter gave the game says it best, it looks like Zelda: Wind Waker, with the gameplay of Sonic Adventure.

Kingmakers (2025)

In Kingmakers, you're going back in time to medieval England, you're just taking an entire modern arsenal with you as well. Unite England to save the world. Build fortifications, battle it out among thousands of soldiers, and maybe call in a helicopter or two to help you out. Plus you can do all of this with your friends in 4-player co-op play.

RECUR (World Premiere, Coming 2025)

RECUR is an interesting Puzzle Platformer where moving forwards or backwards will change the flow of time. Not too much info on this one, but it's definitely one to keep an eye on.

Blue Prince (Spring 2025)

Can you find Room 46? It's harder than it sounds, as the house is ever-changing, with a floor plan that's never the same, because you are the one who is constantly expanding it on a 9x5 grid, day by day. Can you solve the mysteries of this unique and stylized game and find Room 46?

Incolatus: Don't Stop Girlypop (Coming Soon)

Ever looked at a Boomer Shooter and just thought, wow, this is a pretty depressing and grimy feeling game, wouldn't this be better if it was all a bit more Kawaii? Well don't worry, Incolatus is here to fill that gap, with an emphasis on constant fast-paced movement and a bright and colorful style, this one is sure to keep you on your feet!

Lok Digital (Out Now)

Can you find Lok? In this video game adaptation of the Lok Book, you're tasked with finding words of a fictional language on a letter grid, kind of like a word search. This then allows you to black out one additional tile on the grid, with the objective of blacking out the entire grid by choosing your letters carefully and finding all the words. Maybe you'll even be able to help out the little Lok Creatures along the way. Best of all, the game is out now!

Neon Abyss 2 (World Premiere, Coming 2025)

Ready to dive back into the hi-octane and vibrant world of Neon Abyss? Well, you better be, because Neon Abyss 2 is coming to you next year. Fire off your arsenal and watch those pretty damage numbers flash up on your screen in this side-scrolling roguelike

Crescent County (Playtest Out Now)

In Crescent County, you play as the Witch Bo. During the day, you'll be like any other person, doing deliveries, and helping out the locals with their problems, but at night, you become an underground street racer with your motorbroom. Pimp out your motorbroom to make it the flashiest ride in the county, and the fastest.

Plus, there's a playtest out on Steam right now, with the developers requesting feedback on how the game plays and the motorbroom handles.

PBJ - The Musical (World Premiere)

You'll have to let me know what's going on here because I have no idea! It seems like British people are singing about Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches, even though it's a rather strictly American snack and not eaten in the UK! But this whole affair seems rather odd, so it's to be expected. With stop-motion art from vintage cookbooks coupled with physics-based platforming gameplay, you'll progress through 10 musical acts in this surreal adventure.

Curiosmos (Coming Soon)

Ever wanted to create your own solar system? What about a solar system filled with smiling planets? Really, that's exactly what you wanted? Well, Curiosmos must have been made for you then! Drag together stardust to make your planet, and then play around with its design to make it your own, as you build your solar system, you'll be able to watch life grow on your planets!

Bionic Bay (World Premiere, Coming March 13th, 2025)

We've seen this game before, so I'm not sure why it's classed as a World Premiere, but I absolutely adored this game when I first saw it, and now Bionic Bay is looking even better. You'll be able to make use of the ability to control time, gravity, and teleportation to manipulate the world in this puzzling platformer. Plus they've announced that the game will have multiplayer races and will be launching on March 13th, 2025! I for one, just can't wait to see the game's bright colors and dark spaces really shine on an OLED Steam Deck.

inKONBINI (Coming Soon)

inKONBINI puts you in the shoes of Makoto, a Japanese girl who is helping her aunt at her small-town convenience store on the night shift. This seems like Supermarket Simulator crossed with Coffee Talk. You're running the store, but you'll get to meet and know individual characters and their stories.

Feltopia (Coming 2026)

You may have heard of claymation before, but have you heard of feltmation? Well, apparently that isn't a proper word... yet... but this beautiful stop-motion video game could go some way to changing that. With its vibrant world, this side-scrolling shooter tasks you, not by defeating your enemies, but by transforming them from their corrupted selves and back into their natural beautiful forms.

It's a long wait for this one though, with the game not due to be released until 2026.

Blippo+ (World Premiere, Coming Soon...?)

I... have no idea what this is, besides a series of 1-bit videos.

Hyper Light Breaker (Early Access, January 14th, 2025)

In a nice surprise, Hyper Light Breaker got an early access release date of January 14th, 2025. A big change from the original pixel art of Hyper Light Drifter, Breaker is an Action RPG that takes place in an open-world environment, where you can explore the world, solve mysteries, and defeat the Abyss King, alone or with friends.

TankHead (World Premiere, Out Now)

TankHead is a third-person roguelike that puts you in the role of a drone with a human consciousness uploaded into it so you can enter an irradiated area. Here, you will assemble your own tank from parts salvaged from the apocalyptic ruins of this world. It's your job to ensure you are well-armed, and well-armored enough, to take on whatever may stand in your way. There's also some neat destruction at play here, allowing you to blow off specific parts of an enemy's build, and vice versa.

The game is a shadow-drop and is out now, with the only downside being that it appears to be an Epic Games Store exclusive for now.

Conclusion
