Brutal John 2 looks like a gorgeously intense boomer shooter, and I love the setting. It's inspired by classic shooters like DOOM and Serious Sam, but it takes place in the future where you have to save the world from a crypto-mining mutant. With epic boss battles and a futuristic arsenal of weapons, it looks like a really fun experience, and it just got a new update that improves the experience on the Steam Deck.

Brutal John 2

Specifically, in the game's first patch, we have enhancements to make sure that graphical hints display correctly. This means that icons will reflect the Steam Deck gamepad, which will make it easier to see how to play on the go. They did mention in a previous Steam Community Post that this patch would also have smoother performance and better controls for the Deck as well, but it isn't listed here.

Apart from the Steam Deck improvements, we have some performance improvements, the pizza limit is now set to 12, interacting with a mining farm will now reliably destroy it, checkpoints have been added, explosions now use optimized effects, gamepad navigation in the Supershop is smoother, and hard mode is now unlocked after completing the game on any other difficulty.

You can check out the full changelog for the update via their Steam Community Post.

Brutal John 2 is available for $12.99 and is rated Playable due to showing incorrect controller icons. After this update, it should now be ready for that green checkmark.
