Steam Summer Sale

The Steam Summer Sale is filled with so many incredible deals, and we keep finding more that we want to talk about. Now, I want to focus on JRPGs and go over 10 great deals and personal recommendations I think are worth adding to your Steam Deck library. These games have all been tested and guaranteed to work on the Deck and offer a wonderful portable experience that elevates their gameplay.

If you'd like to see more general recommendations, you can check out Part 1 and Part 2 of our previous lists, as well as our under $5 list.

And feel free to check out some of our current recommendations, including:

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy 7- Reunion - $17.49 (65% Off)

CCR6

Crisis Core is my favorite Final Fantasy game and a great prequel to Final Fantasy 7. It still has that Final Fantasy feel, but it brought in real-time combat that mixed in some turn-based elements, which was new back during the PSP era when it launched. Reunion is a remake of the PSP original, and it's amazing on the Steam Deck. With a few changes, which we went over in our review, we can play at 50 FPS, which feels extremely smooth, with high-quality settings, and still save on some battery for around 3-3.5 hours of battery life on the OLED.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade - $13.99 (65% Off)

FF7RemakeSteamDeck5

The start of the remake trilogy for one of the most iconic JRPGs that has ever been released, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade expands on the original with significantly more detail and expanded gameplay, including real-time combat. It’s an incredible experience, and one that stunned me on the Steam Deck, but it will need some compromises. I recommend setting it to 30 FPS and using a combination of low/medium settings. But even with some compromises, it's pretty amazing to experience on the go.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter - $29.99 (50% Off)

TrailsintheSky1stChapterPreview 2

The Legend of Heroes series, or "Trails" series as I call it, is like the Marvel Cinematic Universe of JRPGs. The games span years and years, and we see a lot of old characters coming back older, wiser, and growing into their own. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is a remake of that first game, and it's incredible. It brings in a lot of the new changes that have come from the latest entries, but allows us to go back to where it all started. And with 2nd Chapter coming this year, it's hard not to recommend jumping in now. It's also amazing on the Steam Deck, though I would recommend playing at higher settings with a 45 FPS cap for reduced battery drain and stability. There's no doubt that it's amazing to take on the go, though!

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance - $17.99 (70% Off)

SMTVVQualBat 3

While a lot of people know about the Persona series, most may not know that it's actually a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei. It is similar in gameplay to Persona, with turn-based battles and a great story, but it dives a little more into the Pokémon-esque gameplay with its monsters. It's another great game, and fantastic to play on the Steam Deck. With some minor changes, we can play at 50 FPS for silky smooth gameplay and higher quality settings. It's a fantastic JRPG to take on the go.

Persona 5 Royal - $17.99 (70% Off)

P5R2

The Persona series is highly regarded as one of the best JRPGs for a good reason, and Persona 5 is an amazing entry. The series has a good balance of turn-based combat, Pokémon-esque mechanics with its Personas, a balance of social systems to enhance your power, and incredible stories that are very memorable. Persona 5 is a great entry here, and it is awesome to enjoy on the Steam Deck. With a few changes, we can play at Medium quality settings, 100% render scale, and get around 4-4.5 hours of battery life with a 50 FPS cap and TDP limit of 7. It's an amazing experience and feels right at home on the Deck.

Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece - $39.99 (60% Off)

KingdomHearts3 3

The Kingdom Hearts series is my favorite series compared to all the others. We follow Sora through a multitude of Disney worlds and partake in flashy real-time combat across a convoluted story that I fell in love with. There's so much I can say about these games, but I will say they are a treat. And all of them are very playable on the Steam Deck. The 1.5 and 2.5 both run wonderfully, with Kingdom Hearts 3 being playable at 30 FPS with solid visual quality throughout. It's another great pair of games to enjoy on the go.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven - $24.99 (50% Off)

RomancingSaGa2RevengeoftheSeven 4

This is by far one of my favorite JRPGs I have ever played. Not only does it have an intriguing, reactive story that spans across ages, but its gameplay mechanics are amazing. You learn new moves by utilizing your existing skill set, with you getting more powerful in a more natural way, versus just leveling up. It's also fantastic to play on the Steam Deck, best with high-quality presets and a 45 FPS lock. It will end up draining the battery at around 9-14 W for a solid 4-4.5 hours of battery life on the Steam Deck OLED.

Tales of Symphonia / Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition - $4.99 / $9.99 (75% Off / 80% Off)

TalesofSymphoniaSteamDeck

The Tales of series has always been one of my personal favorites, and I highly recommend it. They have great stories, enjoyable real-time combat, and memorable characters that are fleshed out with enjoyable skits. My all-time favorite is Tales of Symphonia, but it is a little on the old side, so I also recommend checking out Vesperia's definitive edition. And both of these titles are amazing on the Steam Deck. Symphonia is locked to 30 FPS and drains more than it should, but a TDP limit of 4 brings it down and gives us an extra 1-2 hours of battery life. Vesperia runs perfectly at 90 FPS with around 14W battery drain, and bringing it down to 60 will save even more battery.

Disgaea 5 Complete - $19.99 (50% Off)

Disgaea5CompleteSteamDeck

The Disgaea series has always been one of my favorites, and Disgaea 5 is easily the best in the series. The entire game, which has Fire Emblem-esque turn-based combat, revolves around becoming overpowered and demolishing enemies. There's an insane amount of replayability, as your characters can level up to 9999, skills can be upgraded, prestiging to increase base stats, tons of different scenarios, over 40 jobs and races to create your own characters, and so much more. And it runs fantastically on the Steam Deck, hitting 90 FPS with 7W - 8W battery drain for over 5 hours of battery life on the OLED.

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection - $26.77 (67% Off)

EtrianOdyssey1 1

This collection includes 3 great games that will tickle your fancy if you love dungeon crawling. You are going through a forest to map out dungeons, fight enemies, and complete missions. You will build your own party and head out, maximizing your team to tackle the challenges that will come up. And each of these games are perfect on the Deck, with over 6.5 hours of battery life at maximum quality settings and 60 FPS. It's perfect out of the box.

And that's the 10 JRPGs I feel are fantastic additions to your Steam Deck library and worth picking up. If you'd like to see more general recommendations, you can check out Part 1 and Part 2 of our previous lists, as well as our under $5 list.
