007 First Light has shocked me in a multitude of ways. Not only is it extremely fun and encapsulates what I would expect from Bond, but it also runs quite well on the Steam Deck. Leading up to its release, I expected the worst, so it was pleasantly surprising that it was running as well as it does, which we talked about more in our review. And it seems that for the most part, Valve agrees with how well it’s running.

Yesterday, the game got the Steam Deck Playable badge. In this case, it notes that the game works with the default controller configuration and default graphical quality, while also showing the correct controller icons. The only knock against it is that there may be some parts in-game where the text is small. Otherwise, the first-time setup needs an Internet connection, but it’s relatively playable outside of that.
Based on what I’ve played so far, I haven’t noticed any small text. It could be something extremely minor in the UI that is slightly too small, but from what I’ve experienced, it’s very playable. There are some chapters where the performance can fluctuate, but I would say 80 to 85% of the game is great to play on the go. IO Interactive did an incredible job optimizing the game, and it shows.
007 First Light can be purchased on Steam for $69.99.
