Halo’s upcoming remake is coming this month, and I couldn’t be more excited. Halo: Campaign Evolved is bringing us back to the original release, filled with new prologue missions, updated visuals, and more. These games were classics back in the Xbox days, so I’m very excited to dive back in and relive the glory days. And while it has been teased, it looks like we will be able to enjoy it on the Steam Deck since it just got the Verified badge.

Yesterday, Halo: Campaign Evolved got its Steam Deck verified badge. This means that, according to Valve, the game’s default graphics and controller configuration work well, it shows the correct controller icons, and the in-game text is legible. The rating also mentions that the first-time setup needs an Internet connection, and that we may have to manually switch the active controller if using an external one.
These ratings are not always the most accurate, so I would take them with a grain of salt, but there is some reason to be optimistic. Xbox has its own handheld line with ASUS, and the Xbox Ally has very similar performance to the Deck. So, if Xbox is optimizing for handhelds, it would make sense that they target their own online. On top of that, in one of their promo videos, it showed the game being played on the Steam Deck, which does make me feel more confident.
The system requirements are a little bit on the higher side, so looking at those alone would make it seem like it won’t be playable. And I don’t expect the game to be playable at about 30 FPS with high graphical quality, so it’s good to put that in perspective. However, I think there are a lot of reasons to believe it’s going to be playable and enjoyable on the Steam Deck.

Halo: Campaign Evolved can be pre-purchased for $49.99 on Steam ahead of its July 28th release date.
