While I haven’t talked about it much, I do really enjoy VR. I was a owner of one of the first VR headsets, the HTC Vive, back in 2016, and I have enjoyed it ever since. Now, I have a Meta Quest 3 and Valve Index, but I’m extremely excited for the upcoming Steam Frame. I can’t wait to find a reason to get back into VR more frequently, and for those curious, we do plan on covering and reviewing games and reporting how they run on the Frame. But for now, it’s something I’m just going to keep being excited for, especially as it seems to be gearing up for release.
Yesterday, we noticed that the Frame got its own dedicated page over on Qualcomm’s website. For those unaware, Qualcomm is the manufacturer of the chip that’s being used to power the device, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, so it makes sense I would have its own page on the site since it’s using one of its chips. However, this does fuel speculation that a release may be coming soon. The page itself doesn’t have much information, just one paragraph that mostly talks about how the processor is significant, but it’s still great to see and fuels hope for me.

The Steam Frame is going to be an exciting device to use. Hardware wise, it is more powerful than the leading VR headset right now, the Meta Quest 3. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is more powerful than the Quest 3’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, and the Frame has more RAM, but it will be interesting to see these two go head-to-head since the XR2 specifically optimized VR. I’m especially curious about the lenses, which has a varying refresh rate with slightly higher resolution and Foveated Rendering. However, the Quest 3 has hand and body tracking, while the Frame doesn’t.
Still, I’m very excited to use the Steam Frame and play the mountain of VR games that I have sitting in my library. I’m also excited for a few upcoming games, including Hot Dogs and Horseshoes 2. I remember the first one and how much fun I had, so I’m excited to see where they’re going to go with the sequel. I hope that it’s announced soon, because I’m ready to strap in and play more VR.

You can check out more information and wishlist the Steam Frame over on Steam.
