Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is one of my favorite Warhammer games to play right now. The high-octane action is a wonderful call back to the old co-op games that I used to play growing up, and I didn't know how much I missed it. Sadly, it isn't the most playable on the Steam Deck. While it can hit 30 FPS and above at times, it requires a lot of compromise and may still drop below 30 in very busy scenarios. Well, it will at least look nicer on the smaller screen after the latest update to the game!

The new 5.0 patch includes some major new features and fixes, but for those on the Steam Deck, the most notable addition is FSR 3 now being included. The updated FSR means the game should look significantly nicer and will officially support frame generation to "boost" framerates.

While this is wonderful, it doesn't necessarily mean performance will be better on the Deck. FSR 3 itself makes the game look better over FSR 2 but it didn't really help performance as much, and while Frame Generation can help, it feels horrible when it doesn't reach 60 FPS with some major frame timing issues and input lag. I have heard that Space Marine 2 doesn't suffer from these issues, but since I haven't personally tested it yet, I still find it worth mentioning.

Outside of that, we have a full new operation where we are sent to rotate a replica of the obelisk to disrupt the flow of energy that is protecting the Aurora device. You will also encounter a brand new enemy and get access to new glorious-looking season pass content. There's also a new mechanic for Block weapons for perfectly timed blocks, which can grant you Adrenaline Surge to increase melee damage. You can also change your lens color in customization, and firearms are planned to be reworked in the future.
