Like it or not, some of the most exciting moments in PC gaming come when Valve release his new hardware. It feels like every time they do, everyone rushes to get them, and Valve sells out quite quickly. This has happened consistently with the Steam Deck, and I had anticipated that it would happen again with the Steam Controller. And as it turns out, that’s exactly what happened.

Steam Controller

The Steam Controller was officially available for sale yesterday, and just like what happened with the Steam Deck, it was a mad dash to get it. Steam went down, and a lot of people were stuck with messages that would stop their transactions from going through. It was hectic, stressful, and overall another exciting hardware release that is bottlenecked by Valve servers. And after an hour, the controller was sold out.

As stressful as it is, and I do wish Valve would fix these issues so people could get the controller, I am elated to see how well it’s selling. The first Steam Controller was a great idea with some issues here and there, especially when it comes to the handles, but it looks like Valve has learned a lot from the Steam Deck. And for $99, this controller looks like it could be one of the best PC controllers around.

I was luckily able to get my order in around 10:01am, so about one minute after the controller launched. Hopefully, Valve will restock soon so we can get Steam Controllers in the hands of everyone who wants them. Until then, you can wishlist the controller over on Steam.
