Ever since playing Super Mario Odyssey, I have been longing for another 3D platformer that gives me the same feeling that Odyssey did. I love the versatility and abilities you can use to get around the world in unique ways. There haven't been many games that have evoked this feeling for me, but The Knightling did. I first tried the shield-sliding Action Platformer last year for a private demo and again at Gamescom, and I was blown away by how it felt. Today, the public can finally try it for themselves with a brand new demo available.

The Knightling has only been available in private or at events, so this marks the first time the demo can be played by everyone. In the demo, you will get the chance to roam around the world of Clesseia and try out the gameplay mechanics, while being introduced to the story of trying to find your missing mentor. This includes jumping, fighting, and sliding around on the giant shield of yours. It's a very versatile shield, and it's an addictive mechanic to play around with.

The demo is a little bit hard to run on the Steam Deck, with some stuttering and regular drops below 30 FPS on the lowest-quality preset, but Steam Deck support will be coming when it is actually released. The demo is a very early slice of the game, the same one that I tried last year, but there are improvements being worked on and should be playable on the Deck when it is released.

You can download and try out the demo for yourself on Steam and wishlist The Knightling to be kept up to date on its developments.
