A new Steam Deck Beta Client update was released earlier today that fixes up an annoying problem that I have encountered many times. When reconnecting to Steam after waking up my Deck, I would always be inundated with notifications of all my friends that are currently in a game. This resulted in a string of 20-30 notifications, which was a bit ridiculous. The new update for the beta client fixes this, and notifications will no longer appear.

There were also a couple of other fixes like for voice chat invites, backup game files dialog, and the L3/R3 buttons not working on flightsticks. You can download the update yourself in the System Settings on the Steam Deck. Make sure your update channel is set to Beta or Preview.

Steam Deck Beta Client 1/27/25 Update Changelog:

General

  • When reconnecting to Steam (including when resuming from suspend), in game notifications will no longer appear for friends currently in a game.
  • Fixed an error when receiving a voice chat invite

Desktop Mode

  • Fixed the Backup Game Files dialog sometimes failing to complete.

Steam Input

  • Fixed L3/R3 buttons not working on fightsticks or other devices that don't have left/right stick analog axes

Note: This client update was re-released to fix a regression when opening the on-screen keyboard in desktop mode.
