There are some great fighting games to play on the Steam Deck, but a lot of them need some sort of concession. This could include lower, graphical quality, upscaling, or even needing to set the framerate to 30 FPS. Some of the biggest fighters need some of these concessions, including Street Fighter 6’s single-player mode and Invincible Vs. However, I love seeing developers do whatever they can to make sure it runs as well as possible on the Steam Deck, and I love the goals Shot One Fighters has set for itself.

Shot One Fighters

Shot One Fighters is an upcoming roguelike fighting game from Red Moon Workshop that is focused on a single-player campaign. It’s a roguelike, so you will be expanding your move set, taking on artifacts to enhance yourself, and encountering a multitude of events, mini games, and bosses across multiple acts of its evolving story. I love the style, and it looks fantastic to play. But what got me really excited was a post they made on the Steam Deck subreddit, where they outlined their goals for Steam Deck performance.

In the Reddit post’s title, the poster, Rigman-, mentions that they are aiming for 60 FPS with a 10W TDP limit. They are also working on making sure there is no upscaling, that it’s all at native resolution. With so many big games relying on upscalers, it’s really nice to hear about a game coming that is pushing native resolution 60 FPS, rather than pushing us to use upscalers or frame generation. The post also has a video attached, where we can see the game hitting that 60 FPS mark and battery drain sticking under 15W. There does seem to be some throttling when selecting a new move, and we can see the framerate dip to the 40s here, but it’s holding strong during the fight, and that’s what matters.

There isn’t a release date just yet, but the game does have a Steam page where it can be wishlisted. I love the style of the game, and if they can really make it a 60 FPS experience throughout with native resolution, it could be a must-have for your portable library.
