RetroAchievements Confirms Wii Support Coming March 19th

I have always loved going back and emulating some of my favorite games from the past that can't be played easily anymore on the Steam Deck. There are classics I love that still hold a special place in my heart, like Pokémon Emerald and God Hand, that I still enjoy going back to. However, one of the biggest motivators for me to emulate has actually been RetroAchievements. This is a feature that injects achievements into emulated titles, with support for tons of older consoles like the Nintendo 64, GameCube, PSP, PS2, and even ColecoVision, and it just gives me so much motivation to keep playing.

Before I get into the news, I just want to mention that SteamDeckHQ does not support any form of piracy and will never link to or discuss places where you could get ROMs or download games. We support emulation as a form of preservation for older games that are no longer in circulation for consoles that are no longer manufactured.

Last year, RetroAchievements announced that they are adding a new system to their lineup, bringing in achievements for Wii games. At the time, they scheduled the release of the support for March 19th, but it was never 100% confirmed. However, the team has officially confirmed that Wii support will be hitting the March 19th date, and I couldn't be more excited and saddened by all the free time that will disappear.

Still, it looks like it's going to be a big rollout with over 100 games supported when it launches. These include some popular titles like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Super Mario Galaxy 1/2. Here's a full list of the games that will have achievements so far and the users who are making them:

To use RetroAchievements, you will need to make an account and log into it through the Dolphin emulator, which is used for both GameCube and Wii emulation. You can find the option under Tools > Achievements in Dolphin, and you just log in there. It should automatically recognize whatever game is booted, and you can see achievements as you hit them.

It works exceptionally well, and it's very easy to get lost in the greatness that is RetroAchievements. It will eat up your time, especially since it breathes new life into older games, so I can't wait to dive back into some of my favorite Wii titles.
