You can be forgiven for not knowing the OTK Games Expo wasn't going on. But even if you didn't watch it live, there was still some interesting reveals by OTK Games publishing label Mad Mushroom during the show that are worth your attention.
Splodey, the Jump-Less Platformer is Shadow Dropped
Mad Mushroom, an OTK games publisher, announced that Splodey, a platformer without a jump button, is out now on Steam!
Splodey looks like a hectic platformer that relies on momentum to navigate its levels rather than the traditional run-and-jump platformers you might be used to.
The game does have partial controller support, with the developer recommending you use a controller. It also has low system requirements, so the Steam Deck should handle it with no problem. It currently holds 95% Positive reviews on Steam with 40 reviews, so it does seem like it might be a solid little platformer.
Auto-Battler Claws & Chaos Receives a Demo
The auto-battler trend is still ongoing it seems, with Mad Mushroom both revealing Claws & Chaos and giving it a demo at the same time during the OTK Games Expo. Aiming to be simple to learn, yet hard to master, Claws & Chaos challenges you to lead your army of cute critters to victory either in the campaign or PvP multiplayer.
A demo is available now on Steam. It doesn't look like there's controller support, but the system requirements are easy to run.
Rumble Club Season 2 Begins June 24th
Mad Mushroom's Rumble Club is a free-2-play chaotic physics-based multiplayer battle royale. You can either battle solo or squad up in clumsy chaos across an ever-changing slate of game modes with up to 20 players, and Season 2 begins on June 24th. This will bring new cosmetics, new maps, and a brand-new game mode.
Atomic Picnic Receives Release Date and a Playtest
Finally, Mad Mushroom's Atomic Picnic, a cooperative third-person shooter roguelike with survivor-like inspirations, it will launch into Steam Early Access in September 2024. If you want to try the game out now, then a playtest for Atomic Picnic is now available – you can join over at OTK.to/AP to give it a go yourself.
This is Atomic Picnic's third playtest, and here's what's new in this one:
- Each character now has their own specific skills, 1 passive and 1 active skill each.
- A new miniboss, codenamed Jonathan. Obviously.
- A new weapon, the Pistol.
- Plus new upgrades, animations, bug fixes, and balancing.
That's All Folks!
We hope you found that round-up of news from Mad Mushroom at the OTK Games Expo to be helpful! And I'm hoping at least a couple of those games will work well on the Steam Deck!
