Helldivers 2 May Get More Steam Deck Support In The Future

Helldivers 2 is an awesome game, but it isn't the greatest to play on the Steam Deck right now. Despite that, it keeps showing up in the top 20 monthly most-played charts, with it sticking to the 19th spot last month. This is one of those games that I would love to play on the go. While I wasn't very optimistic about it before, it seems I now have a reason to be, and I couldn't be happier about it.

Over on the Helldivers official Discord channel, the team was answering some questions from users in the general chat. One user asked specifically about plans to make the game run better on the Steam Deck, since he can't play on a desktop and it isn't running well. Developer Arrowhead Studios CEO, Shams Jorjani, directly responded to the question, stating that while they are currently working on optimizing the game for the system requirements, they may consider Steam Deck optimization after:

We want to primarily get the game working well on the sys requirements we target. if we make that happen Steam deck will improve as well. then we might considering formally supporting it more.

While this isn't set in stone by any means, the acknowledgment of potential work done on the Steam Deck is great news. As I said before, I love the game and would love to get it playable on the go, so any word on improvements is music to my ears. Only time will tell when and if this happens, but once the team is done optimizing for the system requirements, and the desire for Helldivers 2 on the go is there, it would be crazy if they didn't get it running as best as it possibly could. Though with how often it's on the top 20 most played list, I think that desire is loud and clear.

Helldivers 2 can be purchased for $39.99 on Steam, but you can save some money by getting it for $35.99 over on GreenManGaming. It is rated Steam Deck Playable for small text, needing to configure graphical settings, and needing a community controller configuration, but as I mentioned before, performance is not ready for portable play.
